    News — mind over matter

Our last Mind Over Matter workshop, and what to expect next...

Our last Mind Over Matter workshop, and what to expect next...

So the Mind Over Matter workshop series has come to an end, we spent Saturday with a great group of people, making supportive positive badges, and had a totally wonderful time. Also it turns out Rob (who's joining the team soon) is exceptionally good at collage, who knew?!

We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who's attended these workshop over the last year, and especially to PAPER Arts for asking us to do them in the first place. When we moved into our studio in PAPER we knew we wanted to do workshops, we ummed and ahhed about how to start and themes and times and days, etc. and it turned out that PAPER had a whole year of workshops booked, and were looking for someone to host them. Not only that, but the workshop series was Mental Health themed, so yeah, fate basically. To begin with it was a bit of a panic, taking the workshop leap was a terrifying concept for two very nervous people. We're really pleased with how all of the workshops went, the themes we chose and the things we (and all our glorious attendees) made. It's been a big learning curve, and we've learnt a lot along the way, and we're beyond pleased with the response and feedback we've had from everyone (thanks guys <3)

                                                           So to the future...

At Saturday's workshop we suggested doing a day full of a few different projects, like painting badges, making flags, painting postcards etc. We thought that having the options would be nice, and instead of making a few of the same thing, you could make one of each. It's something we think could be a really fun day, and how's SPEED MAKING for a name?! Pretty neat we thought (but obviously no pressure and you don't have to do things fast). So that's something that could happen, it'll probably be in the new year, as Laura's leaving for maternity leave soon, and it's all gonna get a little busy as we get used to being Laura-less.

On that note! We're delighted to announce that Rob Smith will be joining the team at the end of October! He'll be filling Laura's shoes (or at least trying to, no one can compare, obviously) and help running things. We've got some exciting ideas we want to start, so we're really excited to have him on board! Yay!

I think that's pretty much everything, let us know how SPEED MAKING sounds, and obviously, stay spooky.

September Workshop - Hand Painted Wooden Badges

September Workshop - Hand Painted Wooden Badges

This is our last ever Mind Over Matter Workshop Ghosites!! It's The Guide to Hand Painted Badges and will be held on Saturday 27/09/2016 from 2:00 til 5:00pm at PAPER Arts in Broadmead, Bristol.

Join us (Laura and Lize) in a safe space to paint and decorate personal, helpful mementos. Words of encouragement and positive messages to the self make a world of difference when thinking about our own well-being.
Simply writing down what we like about ourselves and the people around us can really put things into perspective, giving us something physical to refer back to when times are at their hardest.

Create badges for yourself and your friends in this wonderful, hands-on workshop, while gaining some professional advice when it comes to packaging and presenting a creative product!

This workshop is part of a series of workshops that were run throughout the year. Open to all, Mind Over Matter uses art and creative thinking to inspire and empower, equipping us with ideas and techniques to better improve our mental well-being.

We're sad to end these but we'll be back in the Spring running more workshops.

If you have any questions or would like to know more, send us an ask Tumblr or contact us here

July's Mind Over Matter - Painted Plant Pots

July's Mind Over Matter - Painted Plant Pots

On Saturday 30th July I ran a workshop with PAPERArts called The Guide to Painted Plant Pots, which is part of The Mind Over Matter series.  It's a series of workshops to encourage creativity and self care awareness.

Lize was unable to make it this month as she was drawing on the windows of Lush Bristol to help raise money for our workshops we run with OTR and spread some ghosite love!

I have 'baby brain' at the moment as I'm currently growing a tiny human, so this workshop wasn't as organised as I would've liked, but I did get there in the end!! Thanks to everyone for your patience and to Sad Ghost Volunteer Brendan for helping me out on the day.

The more workshops we've been doing, the more materials we've accumulated, so we had lots to go around.
We had a few returning faces at this workshop and lots of new faces. We've made some lovely friends through doing this, so thank you so much for the support!
It was lovely to see Bethany from Doll Hospital Journal who painted a beautiful plant pot.

There's a variety of individuals that attend our workshops, with a wide range of experience in using their creativity. We want to encourage people to explore their creative side and make sure they go home with something they're proud of, no matter what they're crafting knowledge!

As well as painting plant pots we made some wild flower seed bombs, which they could either plant in their newly decorated pot or plant elsewhere.

Here's some of the plant pots made at the workshop! It's rare we get photos of what people have made because we get too into the workshop and forget to take photos, but this time I made sure to get a few snaps.

Our next workshop for Mind Over Matter is Positive Postcards on the 27th August. I'll write a lil blog post about that soon. Click to book a space!!

    Take care of yourself Ghosties!

The more workshops we've been doing, the more materials we've accumulated, so we had loads of paints, lots of glitter and tonnes of inspiration!

We won't be holding a workshop in May for Mind Over Matter as we're stalling at Brighton Illustration Fair that weekend - exciting!... but don't worry as the lovely Gracie from Gracefullymade will be holding one of their workshops and they're wonderful! We'll post on our social media about their workshop when there's more info.

    Take care of yourself Ghosties!
